Hey there! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site? I'm getting sick and tired of Wordpress because I've had problems with hackers and I'm looking at options for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

I am really loving the theme/design of your website. Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility problems? A number of my blog visitors have complained about my blog not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox. Do you have any solutions to help fix this problem?

Howdy! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with Search Engine Optimization? I'm trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I'm not seeing very good results. If you know of any please share. Kudos!

Safety / Prioritizing Safety
« Last post by sdfleming1981 on January 18, 2020, 01:28:08 am »
In light of the Boeing 737-MAX disasters, I have pondered: how could the ergonomists, human factors experts, safety engineers, and countless other teams of people have failed to foresee the design issues that plagued this new aircraft? Where was the line between efficiency and safety crossed? As it turns out, there was no single point of failure, but rather, a series of failures that when combined proved to be fatal. It seems that there was either: not enough incentive to uncover the problems; or too much incentive to overlook the problems. In a world where designing, testing, and brining a product to market as quickly and safely as possible is the way to success, how is safety kept at the forefront? What are the best practices for keeping the emphasis on safety without sabotaging efficiency and competitive advantage? What other industries can learn from Boeing's experience? How can they keep the driving forces of time and cost savings from overruling safety? As academics, ergonomists, and safety professionals, what are the looming disasters in your field and what can you do to bring attention to it?

Open Rank Faculty Position in Manufacturing
University of Texas at Arlington
Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering Department
Position ID: F00106P

The Industrial, Manufacturing, & Systems Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track faculty position with focus in human factors with a tentative starting date in fall 2019. Candidates with expertise in human-machine interface, automation, and environmental health and safety are encouraged to apply. Exceptionally qualified candidates may also be considered for the George and Elizabeth Pickett Professorship.

The IMSE Department is looking for faculty members with outstanding qualifications who share the University’s core values of high standards of excellence in teaching, innovative and collaborative research, and service, combined with fostering an open and inclusive environment and promoting diversity and participation of groups that are currently underrepresented in engineering fields. A major emphasis will be on potential collaboration for research with faculty members within and outside the department.

New faculty are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, build and lead a team of Ph.D. student researchers, develop an externally funded research program that yields top-tier publications, and serve on committees within UTA and the research community. In addition, new faculty will have opportunities to work with the Division of Enterprise Development, which develops targeted training programs to support local and regional industry.

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. degree (All-But-Dissertation, ABD, cases will be considered) in industrial engineer or a closely related area. IMSE expects all candidates considered for the rank of Assistant Professor to have demonstrated exceptional research promise. Candidates for senior openings must be leading their research area. All IMSE faculty also have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and service.

The University of Texas at Arlington is a Carnegie Research-1 “highest research activity” institution. With a projected global enrollment of more than 58,000 in AY 2018-19, UTA is the largest institution in The University of Texas System. Guided by its Strategic Plan Bold Solutions | Global Impact, UTA fosters interdisciplinary research within four broad themes: health and the human condition, sustainable urban communities, global environmental impact, and data-driven discovery. In 2018, U.S. News & World Report also ranked UTA fifth in the nation for undergraduate diversity. The University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and is ranked as the top four-year college in Texas for veterans on Military Times’ 2017 Best for Vets list. The College of Engineering is home to seven departments: Bioengineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. With more than 7,000 students, the College is among the largest in Texas and is the most comprehensive engineering school in the region. It offers 11 baccalaureate, 14 master’s, and 9 doctoral degree programs and has ties to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the region. The College has seen extraordinary growth in graduate and undergraduate student enrollment and in student graduation and has hired 36 new tenured/tenure-track faculty in the last three years. This growth has been concomitant with growth in research expenditures, collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship by faculty and students.

To apply applicants should go to http://uta.peopleadmin.com/ and submit the following materials: cover letter, full curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching objectives and contact information of at least three references. Senior candidates should also include unofficial course evaluations.

Questions about the openings please contact the search committee chair, Dr. Victoria Chen (vchen@uta.edu). For more information about UTA, please visit: https://www.uta.edu/.

Review of applications start immediately and will continue until filled.
